Markee Ledge

Roots //

Bristol, the 90s

Markee Ledge founded the legendary Bristol club night Ruffneck Ting and the label Breakbeat Culture, which helped launch DJ Fresh and D*Minds, a mainstay of the Bristol drum & bass scene, home to Decoder & Substance, Distorted Minds and Fresh & Vegas. As half of Decoder & Substance and the founding producer and songwriter of Kosheen, he helped take jungle to the world: Resist hit number 8 in the UK and sold half a million copies, with Hide U, Catch and Hungry crossing over worldwide.

Evolution //

Under his own name he went deeper. The debut album Elevate fused Kosheen-style vocals with dubby underground sound, with Youngsta, Seven, Leon Switch and dubspeeka. Then came heavyweight 140 releases on Tempa, Artikal Music UK, Uprise Audio, Duploc and Skeleton, and his own Zonal Recordings. The Laws of Emotion series, released on each equinox, and the 2024 album Laws of Emotion (over 400,000 streams) brought it all back to deep, emotive drum & bass.

Now //

Rolling Deeper. A movement built on flow, frequency and the roots of jungle: community, culture, connection. A weekly Friday Roller, a live stream every Friday, a monthly residency at Cross Club Prague with Megatron MC, and an annual compilation uniting established and emerging artists. Mind • Body • Soul (2026), a three-part album with Megatron MC and Decoder, defines his Roots Jungle sound. Connecting the roots with the future.
